Healthy Plants Nutrient Needs
How plants use nutrients and why Fertilize
Plants take up inorganic minerals and water through leaves and roots to manufacture (via photosynthesis) organic compounds which become leaves, stems, roots, flowers and fruits. The manufacturing site is the chlorophyll molecule. Given all the right ingredients plants produce the food, flowers, oxygen and trees upon which we depend.
As your plant grows nutrients are taken-in by the roots of your plants and leeched out by water. Overtime the soil is depleted of most nutrients used by your plants to stay healthy and grow. Unless these nutrients are replaced your plants will no longer have what they need to stay healthy and disease free. Dyna-Gro is one of the very few fertilizers that give you complete macro and micro nutrients that your plant needs.
What does Dyna-Gro fertilizers provide that your plants need? The 17 out of the 20 (air, light and water are the other three) vital micro and macro nutrients necessary for proper plant growth. It adds essential macro and micro nutrients back into the soil to ensure the optimum health for your plants.
Plus, the nitrogen level is lower than the majority of competing brands which is perfect for low nitrogen loving cactus and succulents.
Epic Grower LLC highly recommends the following with micro-nutrients for all your plants: Use Dyna-Gro K-L-N when potting or re-potting by spraying or dipping the roots in the mixture for 10 minutes. Then use either Dyna-Gro Grow 7-9-5 every other month when you water. Use time a good release fertilizer during the raining season. Yes, Epic Grower LLC offers the time release fertilizer we use at our nursery on this site.
What Doesn't My Soil Have in it and What Plants Take Out of it?
Soils do not have all the minerals required for optimum plant growth year after year. Potting mixes contain few essential minerals for plants. They are sterilized and so may lack microbes to break down organic matter. Within months plants have used the available supply and they must be replaced.
The ABCs or NPKs of The Nutrition Solution®
Dyna-Gro is more than a fertilizer. Dyna-Gro is a complete nutrient solution - The Nutrition Solution®- the only formula containing all the mineral elements required for optimum plant growth in one, easy to use, liquid concentrate. Ordinary fertilizers are incomplete. Many simply contain N-P-K! Some contain additional elements but are not complete. This requires the purchase of multiple incomplete products in an attempt to provide plants with complete nutrition. Only Dyna-Gro formulas contain all of the minerals essential for plant growth in one, easy to use, liquid concentrate.
The Elements of Complete Plant Nutrition
Complete nutrition results in superior plant growth. Why choose anything less for your plants? There are 20 elements necessary for optimum plant growth. Air and water supply carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Macronutrients are required by plants in large amounts. Micronutrients are required in smaller amounts. Eliminate any of these elements, and plants will display abnormal growth, deficiencies or may not reproduce. The following is a brief guide to the role played by each of these essential nutrient elements.
Macro Nutrients
- Nitrogen - stimulates stem and leaf growth. Excess delay or no flowering
- Phosphorus - affects seed germination and plant growth. Deficiency (Def): retarded growth & poor flowering
- Potassium - Formation of sugars, carbohydrates, proteins, cell division. Def: spotted or burnt looking leaves
- Calcium - water movement and activates enzymes Def: Stunted flowers, stems roots black spots
- Magnesium – part of chlorophyll Def: leaf drop and yellow veins
- Sulphur - needed by chlorophyll Def: Light green leaves
Micro Nutrients
- Boron - needed for flowering cell division and more Def: bud die back curled brittle discolored leaves
- Chlorine - promotes osmosis, affects water movement and photosynthesis Def: stubby roots, yellowing
- Cobalt - used by nitrogen-fixing bacteria used for in formation of B12 and DNA of plant
- Copper - used to metabolize nitrogen Def: die back of tips. Leaf drop and brown spots
- Iron – need for synthesis of chlorophyll Def: pale leaves, yellowing
- Manganese – used for photosynthesis, cell respiration & metabolizing nitrogen Def: dark leaf spots poor young leaves
- Molybdenum - needed by nitrogen-fixing bacteria; amino acid development Def: pale leaves. Rolled leaves
- Nickel - used for iron uptake and for seed germination
- Sodium - used in osmosis and to metabolize nitrogen Def: yellow leaves, tip burn, inhibits flowering
- Silicon - makes plant resistant to pests, extends bloom life, improves resistance to heat and cold temperatures and much more (See Dyna-Gro TekP information- very important!!!)
- Zinc - needed for stem growth, metabolizing carbohydrates & protein Def: causes iron deficiency
